Swiss fund market reaches a record volume of CHF 1,927 billion
Basel, 2 November 2026 – The Swiss fund market grew significantly in the first nine months of 2026, reaching a new record high with a volume of CHF 1,927 billion. The 10.8 per cent growth was driven mainly by the positive performance of the financial markets and currency effects. At the same time, funds received net inflows of CHF 32.7 billion – primarily into bond funds.
The Swiss fund market has recovered strongly following a weak start to the year. Total assets under management have risen by CHF 187.1 billion since the start of the year to CHF 1,927.4 billion. Around CHF 155 billion, or 8.9 per cent of the total, was attributable to positive market performance, currency movements and other valuation effects. Net inflows totalled CHF 32.7 billion, which was slightly below the level recorded in the corresponding period of the previous year (CHF 35.4 billion). In the third quarter alone, funds received net inflows of CHF 10.8 billion.
In terms of new money, bond funds were clearly in the lead with CHF 13.9 billion, followed by equity funds with CHF 9.7 billion. Money market and commodity funds each recorded inflows of around CHF 3.3 billion. In the third quarter, new money was concentrated in bond and commodity funds. Despite the high inflows, the volume of bond funds rose by only around CHF 3 billion to CHF 439.4 billion, as bond markets fell (SBI –0.97 per cent, Bloomberg US Aggregate Bond Index –2.91 per cent).
The positive performance of the stock markets led, in particular, to a significant rise in the assets of equity funds. Their volume has increased by around CHF 147 billion since the start of the year to CHF 1,010.6 billion. As a result, equity funds now account for more than half of the Swiss fund market. The share of this fund category reached a new high of around 52.4 per cent. Around two-thirds of net inflows (CHF 22.7 billion) flowed into exchange-traded funds (ETFs) (previous year: CHF 16.7 billion).
“The stock market recovery has led to a significantly stronger increase in fund assets this year than the inflow of new capital. It is noteworthy that, at the same time, investors were investing most heavily in bond funds, even though bond prices were falling. This suggests that many prioritise regular income and stability over short-term capital gains,â€ says Adrian Schatzmann, CEO of the ÍøÆØ³Ô¹Ï (ÍøÆسԹÏ).
The competitive landscape in the Swiss fund market remains characterised by a high degree of concentration. The ten largest providers account for around 75 per cent of total fund assets. UBS remains the undisputed leader with a slightly increased market share of 36.9 per cent. It is followed by Swisscanto (10.6 per cent), BlackRock (10.4 per cent) and Pictet (5.9 per cent). Swiss Life has increased its market share to 2.5 per cent, putting it in fifth place, ahead of Vontobel (2.2 per cent). Vanguard has now joined the ranks of the ten largest fund providers with a market share of 1.1 per cent.
Performance of selected indices and currencies at the end of 2025: Dow Jones +5.91%, S&P 500 +11.77%, EURO STOXX 50 +8.25% and SMI +4.24%, as well as SBI -0.97% and Bloomberg US Aggregate Bond Index -2.91%. The euro gained 1.81% against the Swiss franc, while the US dollar gained 5.37%. The statistics compiled by Swiss Fund Data AG and Morningstar are based on the FINMA approvals list and cover all funds under Swiss law as well as all foreign funds approved for public sale in Switzerland, including their institutional unit classes. Foreign funds restricted exclusively to qualified investors are not covered by the statistics because they are only placed privately and cannot receive FINMA approval.
